Learning about gardens
AGT Education Schools Co-ordinator Emma Schofield is based in Lincolnshire and is always happy to give advice. She has collated ideas from all the County Garden Trusts around the country about the exciting and green fingered magic that’s going on in schools!! See New below. She is also compiling a Directory of good practice. Contact Emma : emma.schofield3@btinternet.com
Recently at a Lincoln Cathedral Schools Event - Emma enjoyed “hands-on” teaching year 6 children to whittle with potato peelers – so as to make place names for an eco pot. This was made of newspaper that they created with a mould and the help of Lincolnshire Gardens Trust members, and carefully planted up with tiny red, white and blue seeds, poppies, daisies and cornflowers, a Royall Diamond Jubilee theme to take home. The children could then plant out the whole pot in the garden. All the children were engaged from the word go – and one boy was heard to say “ I want a potato peeler for Christmas!!”
Look who's here ! David Bellamy is stunned when he visits Boston West Primary School in Lincolnshire to see what Headmaster Mike Schofield has achieved -with his wife's Emma's help!
