PARKS AND GARDENS UK WEB RESOURCE

Also featured in the records are more than 2,000 biographies of the people associated with historic parks and gardens, including designers, architects, gardeners, horticulturists, artists and writers.

Thanks to a generous contribution from English Heritage, the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest has been incorporated into the site records.

In addition to the site and people records, there are educational resources and articles in the Explore, Conservation & Restoration, Resource Area and School Zone areas of the website.

Parks & Gardens UK is managed by Parks and Gardens Data Services Ltd (PGDS), a charity set up through a partnership between the University of York and the Association of Gardens Trusts. The initial development funding was provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund in conjunction with over 22,000 hours of volunteer contributions in-kind.

All the information on the website has been contributed by volunteers from county gardens trusts, local authorities, individuals, and other heritage organisations. PGDS provides the training needed to get involved.

The database has been set up so that information can be added and new records created at any time by our volunteer contributors. In this way, we anticipate that the records will continue to grow and improve over time, with further depth added as new research becomes available.

PGDS is happy to train anyone who would like to contribute to the database so that the parks and garden records are presented with greater detail.

Additionally, links can be made from other heritage related websites to Parks & Gardens UK records and vice versa. To set up a link exchange or learn more about how to contribute information, please contact Rachael Sturgeon at info@parksandgardens.ac.uk.
